We started with the software developer domain description from the ‘Hoger beroepsonderwijs ICT opleidingen’ group, also know as HBO-I. We adapted this domain description to better match tomorrow’s software developer, which resulted in the cube you can see to the right.

The next step was to translate this cube into learning objectives, were proficiency level 3 equals NLQF5 and proficiency level 4 equals NLQF6. These learning objectives were then split up into multiple courses, where our course consist of 1 or multiple modules.

Example

On the top side of the cube you see ‘Infrastructure’. The first step is to add the activities:

• Infrastructure - Analysing
• Infrastructure - Advising
• Infrastructure - Designing
• etc..

Per activity, you then add the proficiency level:

• Infrastructure - Analysing - Level 3
• Infrastructure - Analysing - Level 4

• Infrastructure - Advising - Level 3
• Infrastructure - Advising - Level 4

• Infrastructure - Designing - Level 3
• etc…

And last but not least, you decide one or more learning objectives:

• Infrastructure - Analysing - Level 3 → Understand Networking Concepts and Protocols
• Infrastructure - Analysing - Level 3 → Differentiate Between TCP/IP and UDP
• Infrastructure - Analysing - Level 4 → Exploring the Advantages of Containerisation
• Infrastructure - Analysing - Level 4 → Exploring Cloud Computing Options
• etc…
